Biography

HighlanderDavid Painter was born in Southampton, and is a self-taught artist, who has been painting and drawing for over 20 years, although his passion over the last 20 years has been wildlife.

David works from his studio on Southampton, spending weeks on his work to achieve the meticulous detail in his work, resulting in his incredibly realistic original art.

In 1999, David's painting 'Two Bengal Tigers', which he exhibited in London, won him 'The Bird and Davis Award', being judged the best outstanding work in oils.

This year (2008) David has received a certificate, Commended for his painting 'Nomads' of the Mara' for the SAA artist of the year competition, of which he is a member.

David has also completed commissions for three private collectors, and exhibited at Whitley and was successful in selling his work. David is a member of the Marwell International Wildlife Art Society and exhibits every year. He is also a member of the Portsmouth and Hampshire Art Society and will be exhibiting in Old Portsmouth.

David is a staunch supporter of the Conservation Movement, and is a lifelong friend of the DSC Foundation.

Although David is very passionate with his Wildlife paintings, living in Southampton all his life he has always been acquainted with Ships that frequent the large port; therefore he also paints the passenger liners spanning old and new.

David has also had commissions for portraiture work ranging from grandchildren to celebrities, a particular portrait of HRH the Queen was exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery London, for which he is immensely proud of.
